The launch of “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” seems to be trailing behind its predecessor, “Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,” particularly when it comes to the PC platform. However, there’s still a silver lining as it appears to be holding its ground well—especially noticeable on PlayStation consoles.
Released on February 21, the game arrived on multiple platforms including the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Despite being out for a couple of days, Sega hasn’t yet revealed any official sales data.
In the absence of official numbers, we can compare its performance to “Infinite Wealth,” which celebrated its first anniversary on January 26. Data from SteamDB shows that “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” peaked with 22,327 concurrent players on February 23, roughly half of what “Infinite Wealth” achieved when it launched in 2024. Similarly, “Pirate Yakuza” has garnered 2,081 user reviews on Steam, which is 32% fewer than the 3,062 reviews “Infinite Wealth” had at the same point post-launch.
Even though it hasn’t matched the metrics of “Infinite Wealth,” “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” is still noteworthy as it’s the second biggest Steam launch for the Like a Dragon series. Estimates from sources like VG Insights, PlayTracker, and Gamalytic suggest that “Pirate Yakuza” sold approximately 93,000 copies on Steam in its early days. In contrast, “Infinite Wealth” has sold about 565,000 copies lifetime on the same platform. When it debuted, “Infinite Wealth” quickly reached a million copies sold across all platforms within a week, contributing to the franchise surpassing 20 million sales by the end of 2024.
In terms of direct comparisons between the two titles at launch, the metrics clearly show some differences. “Infinite Wealth” had a peak Steam player count of 46,161, significantly higher than the 22,327 for “Pirate Yakuza.” Likewise, in terms of Steam reviews, “Infinite Wealth” recorded 3,062, while “Pirate Yakuza” has 2,081.
Interestingly, on the PlayStation Store, “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” seems to outperform “Infinite Wealth,” boasting 2,224 reviews compared to “Infinite Wealth’s” 1,179 during the same time frame. However, this might not paint the full picture due to potential differences in purchase-to-review ratios.
On the Xbox Store, “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” has seen just 102 player reviews so far. Unfortunately, we couldn’t access historical data to see how “Infinite Wealth” fared during its initial days on Xbox, although it currently holds 540 reviews.
In the grand scope, “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” may not have broken the records set by “Infinite Wealth,” but it remains a strong contender within the franchise’s history, securing the spot as its second-largest Steam launch.
