As my colleagues, who are long-time fans of The Elder Scrolls, get all hyped about today’s The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake stream and sudden release, those of us looking ahead can take solace in the fact that Todd Howard hasn’t forgotten about The Elder Scrolls 6. He even made a point to confirm that the team is actively working on it.
He dropped this little gem before unleashing a treasure trove of Oblivion Remaster news and clips, saying: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
Can you believe it? This is the biggest tidbit we’ve had on The Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024. That’s when Bethesda spilled the beans about early versions of ES6 making rounds with some lucky testers. They even teased us by mentioning that the game is fun—something we definitely hope for!
Going back further, we got a scorching hot update from a former Skyrim designer who mentioned we shouldn’t hold our breath for news on ES6 until six months before its release. That was back in October 2023. Just a month prior, Phil Spencer had optimistically predicted that ES6 would be seen within five years. It sounded a bit like wishful thinking back then, but now, almost two years later, we’re still waiting for solid updates.
It’s important to highlight that concrete details from Bethesda have been almost nonexistent for years. In August 2023, they did confirm that development was underway, five years after the grand announcement during E3. Now, I might be going out on a limb here, but dare I say, did they jump the gun on announcing the game back then?
Sarcasm and jokes aside, it’s refreshing to see a glimmer of hope for Elder Scrolls 6. It’s been ages. I was a student when it was first announced, and now I’ve transitioned into adulthood, juggling bills, bad habits, and yes, dating apps. We all expect Bethesda, arguably the kings of first-person RPGs, will knock it out of the park. But hey, how about giving us some concept art or anything tangible? At this point, Liam Neeson had more proof of life for his character’s daughter in Taken than Elder Scrolls fans have for this game’s existence.
Drop a comment below on how you’re feeling these days, and maybe calculate how much more student loan debt I’ll rack up by the time Elder Scrolls 6 finally graces our screens!
