One of the highlights for PS5 owners has undoubtedly been diving into Astro’s Playroom for the first time. Serving as a delightful precursor to the popularly enjoyed Astro Bot, this complimentary title provides a fantastic introduction to the console’s new capabilities. Since its initial release, Team Asobi has been diligent in rolling out minor updates, sometimes even sprinkling in new content. It looks like today is one of those days with an unexpected update to the game.
Astro’s Playroom’s latest update introduces a fresh element to its gacha machine—the PS5 Pro. This discovery was first brought to light by an X user, Radec. While the update initially seemed to just tweak the cover art and wallpaper during the game’s startup, it turns out there’s more for fans to explore. Even if it’s not a massive addition, it’s sure to elicit excitement from PS5 enthusiasts.
Radec went on to share more about what this update entails. Within the game’s gacha machine, players can now find the newly released PS5 Pro, which they can place inside the little robots’ Secret Labo. Much like its in-game counterpart, the PS5 Pro dominates the showroom with its impressive size and detailed design, replicating every port and feature you’d expect to see on the real console.
Team Asobi has consistently enriched Astro’s Playroom with new Artifacts— the game’s term for collectible PlayStation accessories—since it was bundled with the PS5. Among these collectibles are items such as the PlayStation Portal and the Pulse Explore Wireless Earbuds.
It’s hard to imagine a PS5 owner who hasn’t yet given Astro’s Playroom a spin. But if you haven’t, it remains completely free and definitely worth the four to five hours it takes to wrap it up. Plus, for those trophy collectors out there, it offers an impressively easy route to a Platinum trophy.
