Studio Fizbin, the creative minds behind Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors by the end of this month. This bittersweet announcement was made public on their website, and it certainly caught the attention of folks over at Game Developer. The anticipated closure comes shortly after the release of Reignbreaker, slated for March 18th. In a heartfelt message, Founder and CEO Alexander Pieper shed light on the situation, pointing towards Thunderful’s significant cutbacks in internal development as a major factor.
Right now, the gaming industry is facing some tough times, affecting many talented studios – and Studio Fizbin is not exempt from this wave. Pieper explained how their parent company, Thunderful, decided back in November 2024 to slash its internal development efforts significantly. Thunderful’s CEO, Martin, addressed this situation in the recent quarterly report, explaining how Studio Fizbin was among those affected. Since then, they’ve been on the lookout for new projects to dive into post-Reignbreaker, but unfortunately, none panned out. That reality prompted them to make the difficult choice to close shop.
In his message, Pieper extended a heartfelt thanks to their fans, expressing gratitude for the myriad ways they’ve supported the studio – from buying games to creating fan art, sharing comments and reviews, and just being an invigorating source of passion and support.
He didn’t forget those who’ve been instrumental in Studio Fizbin’s journey. A nod was given to their business partners and supporters like Medienboard, MfG, Creative Europe, and various federal funding partners, whose backing was crucial.
Ending on a personal note, Pieper gave a special shoutout to the amazing team at Studio Fizbin – both those sticking around until the curtain closes and the ones who’ve charted new courses. Each team member has been pivotal in defining what Fizbin and its games are all about, transforming the studio into an exceptional hub for the art – and magic – of game development.
