Review of SMITE 2 on PlayStation 5

Hi-Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games have unleashed the eagerly awaited SMITE 2 on PlayStation 5, inviting players to explore its varied game modes and select the perfect Gods that fit their playstyle. A rotating roster of free Gods will be available for players to try out, allowing them to experience different options before deciding which ones to unlock permanently using in-game Diamonds—whether earned or purchased—or God Tokens gained through leveling up. Additionally, three distinct Founder’s Packs are on offer, which I’ll discuss shortly. You can also snag Diamonds from the PSN store to buy skins for personalizing your Gods.

So, what exactly is SMITE 2? It’s the follow-up to the much-loved MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, SMITE, which has been captivating players on PlayStation 4 for some time. Back in 2016, our reviewer, The_nmac, thoroughly enjoyed SMITE on PS4! The sequel offers a selection of various modes for players to delve into. These include Arena, Joust, Assault, Duel, and Conquest. Arena throws you into the fray in a fast-paced 5v5 matchup where point reduction is key—destroy enemy Gods and minions to bring your opponent’s score to zero.

In Joust, it’s a 3v3 skirmish on a single-lane map aiming to topple the opponent’s hefty Titan. Meanwhile, Assault has you battling in 5v5 in a single lane with Gods randomly chosen, though you can reroll. Those looking for intense one-on-one action can jump into Duel, where players strive to down the enemy’s Titan, leveraging their God’s abilities on a unique map. And then there’s Conquest, a strategic 5v5 battle stretched across a large, triple-lane map, demanding well-coordinated teamwork for victory.

As you dive into matches, grab a relic for added support. For instance, you might choose Purification Beads for a few seconds of crowd control immunity, or the Blink Rune for teleporting short distances. Maybe the Aegis of Acceleration suits your playstyle, offering brief invulnerability – or perhaps you’ll choose Phantom Shell to shield both you and nearby allies. The options, just like the challenges, are diverse and plentiful.

Progressing through the game, you’ll gather experience points not just by winning matches, but also by tackling quests. Goals such as dealing specific amounts of damage or defeating certain numbers of minotaurs keep things lively. These quests and victories help fast-track your account’s level, bringing with them new worshippers to boost your God’s mastery level as well.
