Warner Bros has surprisingly pulled the plug on an upcoming expansion for Hogwarts Legacy, according to recent reports. This add-on was supposed to debut alongside a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG, offering players fresh storylines and content.
The decision to cancel came after Warner Bros concluded that the additional content failed to provide enough value to match the planned price point. The expansion was being crafted by Avalanche Software, the original developers of the game, in collaboration with Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also said to be working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
The news comes on the heels of Rocksteady’s recent turmoil, which included layoffs following their announcement to end support for the 2024 title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Last year, Warner Bros publicly acknowledged that its gaming division was performing below expectations. This was underscored by a significant $200 million write-off for the Suicide Squad project. In recent developments, the company has shut down three studios, among them Monolith, and saw its long-standing leader, David Haddad, leave his position.
