PlayStation Studios alongside San Diego Studio have officially announced the release date for MLB The Show 25, which is set to delight baseball fans with its arrival on the Nintendo Switch.
This year signifies a remarkable 20-year journey for MLB The Show, celebrating two decades of capturing the essence of baseball, pushing technological boundaries, and creating lasting memories for fans all over the globe.
For the first time, to mark this anniversary, three exceptional young athletes will grace the cover – Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson. These players represent the bright future of baseball and stand alongside a prestigious lineage of past cover stars.
Paul Skenes has seen a meteoric rise from his high school days, through college, becoming a national champion, and eventually being the top pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 2023 MLB Draft. He made history by being the first player ever to start the All-Star Game just a year after being drafted, capping off an impressive 2024 by snagging both the National League Rookie of the Year and a spot on the All-MLB First Team. His journey embodies the essence of MLB The Show’s Road to the Show mode, where players forge their own paths to glory.
Then there’s Elly De La Cruz, who progressed swiftly from the minors to the majors, capturing hearts with his debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2023. Known for his electrifying playstyle – lightning-fast speeds, a superpower-like arm, and being among the youngest to hit for the cycle – Elly showcases a thrilling five-tool prowess. His talents make him the kind of player MLB The Show enthusiasts aspire to create or recruit when perfecting their Franchise mode teams.
Finally, there’s Gunnar Henderson, the star of the 2023 American League Rookie of the Year, initially picked 42nd in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Orioles. He advanced briskly through their farm system and made his MLB debut in 2022, quickly becoming a significant team figure and helping them reach the postseason for the first time in seven years. Recognized as the #1 prospect, Gunnar’s exemplary first full season earned him not only the AL Rookie of the Year title but also a Silver Slugger Award. His continued rise through 2024, with accolades like being chosen for the All-Star Game and competing in the Home Run Derby, resonates with MLB The Show players who are keen to dominate head-to-head competitions on the field.
