And just like that, my long run of dodging real money for Nintendo Switch Online has come to an end.
One of the beloved features for Switch users will soon disappear right after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and another feature won’t carry over to the anticipated Switch 2.
In a late-night announcement, Nintendo revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program will be discontinued starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program was a favorite for fans, offering 1% back in eShop credit for physical first-party games in their initial release year, and a generous 5% for all eShop purchases. A small exception exists for physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the expiration date, covering titles from Endless Ocean: Luminous to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, future hits like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
Moreover, the support page for Switch Online Vouchers has recently been updated. The news? These vouchers won’t work for games on the Switch 2. For those not in the know, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could snag these vouchers in pairs for $99 USD (or equivalent) and redeem them for first-party games. The good news is, they’ll still be usable for upcoming titles on the original Switch, including Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
