Ubisoft has unveiled Patch 1.0.2 for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, offering a wealth of important fixes and enhancements for the game. Since its release late last month, it’s been a standout title in 2025, transporting players to a captivating feudal Japan setting. The game’s innovative stealth mechanics, engaging combat, and dynamic protagonist duo have resonated well, achieving a commendable score of 82 on OpenCritic.
While players have largely embraced Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a few nagging technical issues have persisted since launch. Chief among them were significant frame rate reductions within the game’s Hideout area, a space designed for building functional structures and personalizing your environment. Although this issue didn’t impede progress for most players, Ubisoft had promised a patch would address these frustrations.
Tomorrow, on April 8, Patch 1.0.2 rolls out, bringing substantial improvements. Xbox users will need 19 GB to download, PS5 owners about 12 GB, and PC gamers up to 16 GB. Notably, those playing on Performance Mode will enjoy smoother visits to the Hideout with newly uncapped frame rates. Moreover, an item tagging system has been added for easier gear management, streamlining both selling and dismantling processes, particularly within the Hideout’s forge.
The update also delivers a treat for PS5 Pro users by enabling support for the console’s PSSR feature, enhancing visuals for even greater immersion. This is part of a broader set of enhancements that includes improvements in horse traversal. Navigating the game’s rugged landscapes should now be less cumbersome with an auto-follow feature for paths, and even the horses can sprint through towns, bypassing the previous slowdown that forced players to dismount and run.
Patch 1.0.2 is large, but Ubisoft hints that a more significant title update could be forthcoming. In the meantime, players can delve into this update’s numerous refinements for a better gaming experience.
Horse Auto-Follow and Speed Tweaks
Navigating while riding in Assassin’s Creed Shadows now includes an auto-follow feature. Simply activate the pathfinder, and your horse will follow the marked roads. We’ve also boosted horse speeds in urban areas to ensure quicker travel.
Mastery Nodes Reset and Item Management
Players can now experiment with different playstyles as resetting Mastery Nodes in the skill trees is possible. Additionally, traders and the forge in the Hideout benefit from an option to tag, sell, or dismantle multiple items at once, making inventory management more efficient.
Exclusive Updates for PS5 Pro
Visual enhancements are coming to PS5 Pro, including new PSSR support. For users experiencing the upgrade, activation can be done manually via the pause menu’s video tab. Balanced mode now offers Raytraced Specular visuals for a richer experience akin to PS5 Pro Quality mode.
Additional Improvements Across the Board
Beyond performance upgrades, the patch introduces fixes based on user feedback, such as improved boss fight balancing, better synchronization for character actions, and tweaks to various game elements. Whether it’s more responsive stealth actions or better-managed save files, this update touches on a wide spectrum of player experiences.
While players eagerly anticipate what’s next for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, this patch undeniably enhances the adventure, resolving bugs and tightening gameplay mechanics for an overall smoother journey through feudal Japan.
