Avowed isn’t officially slated for a PlayStation release just yet, but if you’re gaming on a PC, some creative mods can let you pretend otherwise.
You might be inclined to think Avowed is destined for PlayStation eventually. I mean, why else would Xbox chief Phil Spencer keep hinting about Xbox games branching out to other platforms? Heck, even Halo has whispers of making a leap to the Nintendo Switch 2. I find it hard to envision a scenario where Avowed doesn’t eventually land on the PS5, even if it takes a year or more. For now, though, it’s exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Not that these are poor choices, mind you, but I do have a soft spot for the PlayStation interface—it just feels more like home to me.
Thankfully, when I’m in a bind like this, the modding community never fails to come through. There’s already a nifty mod that allows for a complete switch of the in-game controller UI to PlayStation buttons. Need to interact with an object? Just hit the square button! Not sure which button makes you jump? Count on the cross button (except in Kingdom Hearts, of course). This straightforward mod, created by NeuroticNinjah, is a perfect fit for those either itching to get started or who just prefer using a PlayStation controller on PC without mismatched button prompts.
But wait, there’s more! Modder Chachinito has crafted an additional mod that swaps the Avowed splash screen with the PlayStation Studios logo. Does this change the actual gaming experience? Not really, but it does add a touch of humor for PlayStation aficionados who play on PC and feel a sting of resentment about Avowed being technically an Xbox exclusive. Sometimes, a dash of pettiness can lead to a good chuckle.
Given how long these processes take these days, we might see Avowed make its way to PlayStation before any DLC or a sequel appears, which the game’s director seems to be contemplating.
