Intel is finally addressing the performance issues with their Arc GPUs, specifically in relation to older CPUs, and has launched an investigation to fix the problem.
### Intel Tackles Arc GPU Performance Challenges with Older Ryzen and Intel Core Processors
When Intel released the Arc B580 and B570 GPUs, they initially seemed promising, offering more VRAM than competitors. Yet, their presence quickly faded from the performance charts, largely due to subpar optimizations.
The crux of the problem extends beyond just Intel’s GPU drivers. The real issue, as highlighted by Hardware Unboxed, arises from the underwhelming performance of Arc B580 when paired with older CPUs like the Ryzen 2000 and 9th gen Intel Core processors.
For a while, Intel seemed to overlook this problem, but now they’ve finally acknowledged it on their forums. Intel has issued the following statement:
> Thank you for your patience. We are aware of reports of performance sensitivity in some games when paired with older generation processors.
> We have increased our platform coverage to include more configurations in our validation process, and we are continuing to investigate optimizations.
This message suggests Intel was aware of the situation but hadn’t yet implemented a proper solution. They promise to expand optimizations to accommodate more configurations, offering hope for a resolution soon. Unfortunately, they didn’t specify a timeline for the expected fixes.
Intel needs to roll out driver updates, as their hardware is already competitive with past-generation rivals in the latest games. It was unexpected to see subpar performance with Intel’s own older-generation CPUs, especially since Arc B580 and B570 perform adequately with the latest Intel and AMD CPUs.
Ideally, with the forthcoming patches, Intel might better position itself to challenge AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. However, this doesn’t guarantee immediate progress in the GPU market. With the Arc Battlemage GPUs scarcely available, Intel’s presence in the budget GPU segment remains minimal and largely uncompetitive against current contenders.
