Fortnite enthusiasts are scratching their heads over the latest footwear addition to the Item Shop known as Rock Bottoms. These new Kicks have sparked both curiosity and confusion among the player base. While Chapter 6 Season 2 of Fortnite has faced criticism for its lackluster content and vaults, the loot pool has won the hearts of many players.
The introduction of Kicks in November 2024 brought with it a whirlwind of controversy, primarily due to their pricing. Some licensed sneakers command a hefty price of up to 1,000 V-Bucks, which hasn’t sat well with a number of players. Considering that some complete outfits are priced at only 800 V-Bucks, it’s no surprise that many find it frustrating that a single accessory could cost more than an entire skin. Epic Games’ original Kicks are priced at 600 V-Bucks, and while these are generally better received, there’s still a strong sentiment that the prices for all Kicks should be slashed in half.
Recently, a Reddit user known as Immediate_Vast3838 uploaded an image of the Rock Bottoms, voicing their bewilderment about these new Kicks. The image revealed boots encased in massive cement blocks, prompting a slew of mafia movie references, with players quoting classics like Goodfellas and The Godfather. Yet, amid the jokes, some fans expressed their admiration for Fortnite’s original shoe designs, preferring them over the licensed alternatives.
The Rock Bottoms are intriguing the community, with many eager to purchase them despite feeling the price is somewhat steep. Conversations quickly emerged about which in-game characters would best pair with these cement-clad shoes. Luckily, Fortnite’s Item Shop facilitates previews for Kicks with any compatible character in a player’s locker.
Gamers have also voiced their disappointment that licensed Kicks lack edit styles – a feature that has been introduced for only one pair so far, letting players choose between blue or pink fluffy bunny slippers. A vocal section of the community is appealing to Epic Games to incorporate more edit styles into Fortnite’s Kicks, arguing that it would enhance their value. However, collaborations with brands like Nike, Adidas, and Crocs remain mere recolors, priced just as steeply as original designs. Despite these hurdles, there’s a prevailing sense of optimism about what’s to come for Fortnite among its fans.
