### What is Horde Assault mode?
Horde Assault is designed to test your mettle, offering a brand-new gameplay experience where you’ll aim to rack up high scores by enduring wave after wave of increasingly challenging hordes and foes like Breakers, Reachers, and Rager bears. Navigate a constantly evolving environment where the difficulty ramps up the longer you can hang in there. This mode embodies the essence of the Days Gone universe, promising that “This World Comes For You.” It’s the ultimate playground to prove your prowess against an endless flow of Freakers.
You’ll start this gripping mode by jumping into the Cascade region with just a sidearm. Your first mission: fend off initial hordes of Freakers and reach your Drifter bike. It’s crucial for covering ground across the open map. Scattered Supply Boxes offer an arsenal of powerful weapons critical for survival. With over 20 arms to find (including a previously unavailable flamethrower), these Supply Boxes can be your lifeline. Each box promises a surprise with randomized weapons, resetting with each new attempt.
Surviving is no walk in the park; completing Side Jobs is essential for resource replenishment and extra XP. Imagine finding yourself low on ammo and up to 800 Freakers on your tail. Should you make it past the 30-minute mark on any map, brace yourself for the Ultimate Horde—a relentless assault that promises to test even the bravest players. But we’ll leave some surprises for you to uncover yourself.
### Survive
Climbing through levels in Horde Assault offers rewards, including exclusive characters and unique Injectors that alter gameplay significantly. If you’ve played Days Gone, you’re already acquainted with Injectors’ perks from the main storyline. These perks come into play here as modifiers, offering a selection of 24 unique Injectors—12 positive and 12 negative. Positive Injectors boost your score but up the challenge, while the negatives decrease your score yet improve survival odds with gameplay benefits.
Here’s a sneak peek at some Injectors: Exploding Freakers explode at death, giving you an edge against large hordes, while the Wanted Injector sets your heat level to maximum at the outset, ramping up the challenge for true survivalists.
As you progress, you’ll unlock a rich Reward path with 35 levels, each offering exciting rewards including character skins and patches. Added to the lineup are six characters from Days Gone never before available for play, such as O’Brian, Lisa, and the ever-popular Skizzo.
Cosmetic patches return from the 2019 Challenges, purely for bragging rights and flair on Deacon’s cut. Enhanced Photo Mode comes in handy to showcase these. They also carry over to the story mode. Extra perks await those who hit the target score across all four regions, with one highly sought-after reward involving your trusty bike—puzzled yet excited?
Though categorized as endgame content, Horde Assault is accessible right alongside the rest of Days Gone Remastered. New players might want to familiarize themselves with combat and mechanics through the main story first. Regardless, jumping into the action-packed world filled with hordes promises an additional 10 hours of gameplay excitement.
