Gaming industry veteran Dino Patti has recently regained ownership of Jumpship from Thunderful, marking a significant shift for the studio. According to GI.biz, the former Playdead co-founder intends to reinvigorate the company and guide it on a fresh path. Patti initially established Jumpship in 2017 alongside Chris Olsen, and together they launched their first game, “Somerville,” in 2022.
In that same year, Thunderful, a notable European gaming firm, acquired Jumpship. Patti is also expanding his influence by investing in Sad Owl Studios, the creators of Viewfinder. However, the financial specifics of these deals remain undisclosed.
Patti shared his perspective on the current state of the gaming industry, expressing a desire to unveil his plans in time. “I truly believe we need a radical change in the way investments and publishing are handled,” he said, emphasizing that the system needs to better support both developers and gamers.
He reaffirmed Jumpship’s core mission, stating, “Our goal has always been to explore the depths of emotion, narrative, and innovation within games. My aim is to steer the company towards this new and exciting direction, while still honoring its original vision.”
Ultimately, Patti sees this decision as more than just a strategic business move. “It’s about reigniting that original spark of passion and vision that brought Jumpship to life, and pushing its boundaries even further,” he concluded.
