Today, Bungie gave us an exciting sneak peek into its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, showcasing a first look at the gameplay. It’s official—Marathon is set to launch on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23rd, 2025.
In this game, players will hop into the shoes of Runners—cybernetic mercenaries each boasting unique abilities. You’ll be part of a team of up to three players, embarking on missions to take on hostile AI security forces and competing Runner teams. Along the way, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and gear, all of which you can keep to enhance your future adventures, provided you make it out alive.
Your task is to jump into a zone, loot as much as possible, and escape unscathed. The game pits you against a variety of threats, including AI foes and rival teams, which you’ll need to confront using strategy and skill. For those who thrive on a greater challenge, you can also choose to tackle a match solo, taking out entire teams and extracting with all the loot by yourself.
