The world of Warhammer 40,000 has an enormous fan following, with many enthusiasts diving in to add their own creative touch to the universe. Among these fan-created works, few have reached the acclaim of “Astartes,” a YouTube sensation brought to life by Syama Pedersen. This series captivates audiences by depicting the battle-hardened Retributors Chapter as they charge onto an enemy vessel. What’s striking about “Astartes” is its lack of dialogue, instead drawing viewers in through the visceral and intense scenes of Space Marines clashing with foes and the enigmatic xenos relics they uncover.
Such was the impact of “Astartes” that Pedersen caught the attention of Games Workshop, leading to his recruitment. Recently, the gaming titan released a teaser for “Astartes 2,” much to the delight of fans.
The new trailer is a whirlwind of exhilarating action, showcasing a variety of Space Marine Chapters. From the returning Retributors to the fierce Blood Angels, the eerie Mortifactors, the technological Sons of Medusa, and the steadfast Scythes of the Emperor, each makes an appearance. The Warhammer Community has clarified that these glimpses aren’t actual scenes from the anticipated series but serve to flesh out the background and legacy of each Marine group. The appearance of a Deathwatch Terminator hints at the possibility of these Marines assembling under the Deathwatch banner, a coalition of warriors from different Chapters united against all alien threats.
Eager fans will need to be patient until 2026 for the release of “Astartes 2.” True to its roots, the sequel promises minimal dialogue, intense action, and an overarching alien menace. Pedersen’s talents were also showcased in “And They Shall Know No Fear,” part of Amazon’s “Secret Level” anthology linked to the game “Space Marine 2.” Anticipations for “Astartes 2” suggest it will premiere on Warhammer Plus, a subscription service offering a treasure trove of animations, tutorials, and various content from the 40K universe and Age of Sigmar.
