It’s been quite a while since the legendary Angry Video Game Nerd made his debut in the gaming world with his own title. Now, he’s gearing up for a grand return, ready to take on both the current gaming scene and genuine retro enthusiasts alike.
Thanks to Retroware, the Angry Video Game Nerd is making a comeback with a brand-new venture, AVGN 8-bit. This latest adventure sees the Nerd himself diving into a fresh 8-bit game, which he pulls right off his trusty old NES shelf. You can catch a glimpse of this excitement in the trailer that went live on January 22.
Retroware is pumped to roll out this new AVGN title, designed for the NES by Mega Cat Studios, aiming to bridge the gap between retro nostalgia and modern gaming. They’re teaming up with Limited Run Games to release physical copies both for the latest consoles and as a genuine NES cartridge. The exact release date for these physical editions is still under wraps, but anticipation is steadily building.
While AVGN 8-bit is still in development, with no specific release date just yet, fans can take comfort in knowing that it marks the first game since 2016’s Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation and the 2020 deluxe bundle of both AVGN Adventures. The game aims to be accessible on PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. And for those who long to relive the fun on their original Nintendo Entertainment System, a classic cartridge version will also be available, courtesy of Limited Run Games. Plus, for a limited time, you can snag a free poster of the game.
