Nintendo recently announced that they will be opening pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the U.S. on April 24, keeping the starting price at $449.99. If you’re interested in snagging a bundle with Mario Kart World included, you can expect to pay $499.99.
Initially, U.S. pre-orders faced a hiccup after the console’s unveiling; this was due to Nintendo evaluating potential impacts of tariffs and changing market conditions.
You’ll notice some price hikes in the accessory department. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers, originally $89.99, have seen a slight increase to $94.99, while the Pro Controller has risen from $79.99 to $84.99. Other accessories, such as the Switch 2 camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips, are also seeing similar price bumps.
Nintendo stated that future price adjustments on any of their products may be necessary based on market conditions.
Mark your calendars for the official launch of the system on June 5th.
Originally, pre-orders were scheduled to begin on April 9th but were postponed due to the timing of Nintendo’s announcement, which coincided with President Donald Trump’s announcement of a significant tariff strategy. On that date, Trump called for a 90-day delay on many tariffs, except for the increase on Chinese goods.
As for Nintendo’s games, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza – due for release on July 17 – are seeing no price changes, remaining at $79.99 and $69.99 respectively.
The Switch 2 is bringing some exciting updates, boasting a larger display with HDR support, an extra USB Type-C port, and enhanced graphics power from Nvidia.
Although the $449.99 price tag is significantly higher compared to the $299.99 launch price of the original Nintendo Switch, some fans have been urging Nintendo to consider lowering the cost.
Including a note of apology for the delays, Nintendo expressed hope that this announcement will help ease any uncertainties customers might be feeling.
