Chains of Freedom from Nordcurrent offers a captivating turn-based tactical adventure on the PS5, drawing inspiration from classic titles like XCOM and Mutant Year Zero. In this dystopian storyline, you find yourself navigating the trials of a fictional Eastern European nation devastated by the spread of EDEN. You’re in charge of a top-tier military team under Sovereignty orders, unraveling a deepening mystery before it’s too late. The drama unfolds in the aftermath of an asteroid collision. Not only did the impact cause massive destruction, but it also scattered the alien substance known as EDEN crystals, which began transforming humans into crazed mutant beasts.

But there’s a glimmer of hope. The Sovereignty arose to restore order, even creating a serum to grant immunity against these treacherous crystals. However, rebellion brews as not everyone is eager to submit to this new order, opting instead to defy it and forge their own path. Having reviewed both Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden on PS4 back in 2018 and Miasma Chronicles on PS5 in 2023, I was keen to dive into Chains of Freedom to see what fresh experiences it brings to the table.
