The laptop market is undergoing some pretty significant changes right now, and even the more affordable options are not immune to these shifts.
This past week, I’ve been on the lookout for some stellar laptop deals and came across a few that are too good to keep to myself. One standout is the Lenovo IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1, featuring the Snapdragon X Plus chip.
This convertible device, which won a Windows Central Best Award, boasts an impressive OLED display, notable efficiency, and a price tag that won’t break the bank.
Right now, Best Buy is slashing its regular $859 price down by $300 to just $559. Senior Editor Zac Bowden dubbed this device “the perfect Snapdragon X Plus laptop for everyday office tasks and student work,” and I must agree.
### Is it a Good Time to Buy a New Laptop?
With the current upheaval in the laptop market, driven by new tariffs, I advise anyone considering a purchase to act fast before prices spiral out of reach.
Both Framework and Razer have paused U.S. sales for certain models, and Acer disclosed in February that it would raise laptop prices by a flat 10% due to the impacts of these tariffs.
The writing’s on the wall: expect laptop prices in the U.S. to jump in the weeks ahead. That said, there’s a brief window where retailers have existing stock, unaffected by the new rules.
Lenovo’s IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 already offered significant value at its original $859, so snagging it at a $300 discount really sweetens the deal.
### Lenovo IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1: Review Highlights
Senior Editor Zac Bowden was full of praise for the Lenovo IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1, giving it a four-star rating and awarding it the Windows Central Best Award.
Those ratings came at full price, so seeing a $300 markdown at Best Buy is truly noteworthy.
In his review of the $750 configuration, Bowden remarked:
“The Lenovo IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 is among the first mid-tier laptops I’ve checked out that comes equipped with the Snapdragon X Plus. Priced at $750, it offers all-day battery life, reliable performance for productivity tasks, a comfortable keyboard and trackpad, and an outstanding 14-inch OLED touchscreen that supports pen input.”
“Getting all of these features for just $750 is quite rare nowadays. In the past, compromises were necessary, either sacrificing display quality, trackpad functionality, performance, or battery life. But that’s no longer the case.”
The IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 is a Copilot+ PC powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus System-on-Chip (SoC), which houses a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) delivering 45 TOPS of power, perfect for local AI tasks.
Even if you’re not using the AI features in Copilot+ PCs, you’ll enjoy the impressive efficiency Qualcomm is known for.
Bowden recorded over 15 hours of use on a single charge during the Procyon battery rundown test. Even accounting for real-world usage variations, a full workday without a recharge is easily achievable.
While the laptop isn’t showy, and its camera and speakers are nothing to write home about, the display more than compensates for these trade-offs.
The 14-inch screen uses a 1080p OLED panel to deliver vibrant colors and deep contrasts. Plus, its brightness reaches up to about 400 nits, reducing glare in well-lit environments.
