Fans of PlayStation and vibrant, imaginative games have something to celebrate today. Astro Bot made a splash at the BAFTA awards last night, not just snagging any award, but winning the coveted Game of the Year title. It managed to outshine some remarkable contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
That’s not all—Astro Bot didn’t stop at just one accolade. Alongside the prestigious Game of the Year award, it scooped up trophies for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This comes on the heels of its Game of the Year triumph at The Game Awards last year, where it once again stood tall against a lineup of formidable titles in an incredibly competitive 2024.
As the team gathered on stage to accept their accolades, Nicolas Doucet stepped forward to offer a heartfelt speech. He expressed his gratitude to the dedicated team back in Japan, acknowledging their passion and effort. “A huge thank you to everyone over in Japan who poured their heart and soul into this game, day in and day out, with a single aim: to bring a little more joy into people’s lives. We weren’t focused on winning—just doing our best.”
Doucet extended his thanks to various individuals connected to the success of Astro Bot, from the game’s composer to everyone at PlayStation, along with the partners whose games were featured in Astro Bot. He also gave nods to the BAFTA academy, the families who supported the developers, and the trailblazing game creators of the past.
