Pragmata has become a big deal, earning 466 votes and surpassing big hitters like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, all of which are expected to drop sometime within the next year. And this isn’t just a one-off occurrence. Ever since its unveiling in 2020, Pragmata has consistently appeared in Famitsu reader polls, often securing a spot in the top three. In fact, it’s been a regular fixture in the magazine’s list of the top 10 most desired games, with the last time it fell out of that category being back in September 2023.
Still, those numbers are a bit puzzling because we haven’t exactly seen much of Pragmata. Over the past five years, apart from a few stunning cinematics and brief glimpses of gameplay, there hasn’t been much to go on. It makes you wonder what has grabbed the attention of Famitsu readers so strongly. Personally, I was definitely intrigued when it was first announced, but its troubled development has made me view it like Deep Down—another promising Capcom project that, unfortunately, never made it to our screens.
The little we know about Pragmata comes mainly from Capcom’s marketing. It’s described as “an all-new action adventure title that depicts a near-future dystopian world on the moon through a deeply profound story and setting”—a description shared on both the PlayStation and Xbox stores.
The developers have mentioned their regret in having to postpone the game further. “Creating the best game we can takes time. We’re working hard and need more of it. We’ll continue to strive to deliver a game worthy of your patience,” they shared.
So, the big question remains: Is Pragmata another case similar to Deep Down, or could it pull a surprise comeback like Fumito Ueda’s The Last Guardian? Maybe Capcom is waiting for the next console generation? It’s tough to predict exactly what they’re planning. However, one thing’s for sure—Pragmata has left a memorable mark on the gaming community, and it would be a real letdown if Capcom failed to capitalize on such sustained enthusiasm.
