The team behind Skyblivion, a monumental mod project revamping The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine, has recently made a significant stride. They’ve completed the landscaping for every region in their sprawling map of Cyrodiil. Though there’s still a way to go before they hit their anticipated 2025 release, this achievement marks a major checkpoint along the journey.
The team shared their progress via Twitter, saying, “With the Niben Basin and Valley now complete, Cyrodiil’s landscape has all undergone at least an initial pass. Next on our agenda is enhancing previously worked on areas of the map to meet higher standards.” Approaching this task with dedication, they’re moving forward with refining the map’s finer details.
Last month, in a video update, the Skyblivion modders had mentioned their efforts to wrap up the world map, leaving just the Nibenay region on Cyrodiil’s eastern border to finish. Now, that task can be ticked off the list.
Even with this accomplishment, the work is far from over. Alongside the mapping tasks mentioned in their tweet, they’re likely looking at completing navmeshing for different areas. This is crucial so NPCs can navigate smoothly without getting stuck, enhancing the mod beyond what we’ve seen in Skyrim or Oblivion’s default gameplay.
Moreover, the team is also neck-deep in working on numerous interiors. They’re focusing on quest locations, demanding more time and creativity than generic interiors. As of last month, six quests were still awaiting their turn for development.
If you have the skills and time to contribute, Skyblivion’s creators are actively seeking new volunteers to join their ranks. Interested individuals can find more information on how to get involved.
