Square Enix might be gearing up to drop some exciting news about Parasite Eve, according to a well-informed leaker. There’s speculation that this announcement could happen during the State of Play on February 12. Fans of the 1998 horror RPG have been longing for a remake for ages, and the original title, with its gripping narrative and timeless appeal, still holds a special place in their hearts.
Back in 1998, Parasite Eve made a splash on the PlayStation, thanks to the visionary touch of Hironobu Sakaguchi, the brains behind Final Fantasy. The game, set against a sci-fi horror backdrop inspired by a Japanese novel, follows Aya Brea, a gritty NYC cop on a mission to thwart Eve, an opera-singing villainess whose plans could spell doom for humankind. With its cinematic vibe and a haunting score by Yoko Shimomura, known for her work on Kingdom Hearts, fans have been clamoring for this game to see the light of day once more. Recent chatter hints that their wishes might soon come true.
A curious image posted by a prominent leaker, Xun, who is known for their accurate insights on forums like A9VG and ResetEra, has stirred up speculation. The image, which hinted at the February 12 State of Play date, was intriguingly titled “the hypnotic soprano,” likely a reference to the antagonist’s operatic theme in Parasite Eve. Additionally, the image featured a square piece of tofu with an “e” embedded in it—a nod to Square Enix. Although a big reveal for a new Parasite Eve project seems ambitious for this State of Play, whispers about its return have been persistent, so it’s not entirely out of the question.
Parasite Eve could be making its grand entrance at the February State of Play.
Square Enix hasn’t completely let the game fade into obscurity, even though they’ve been tight-lipped about any future plans. In September 2023, fans were pleasantly surprised to see Aya Brea make a cameo in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. This cameo, along with the positive reception of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, has fans hopeful for similar remasters, with Parasite Eve high on the wishlist.
In the meantime, Square Enix has its hands full with other projects. They’re pushing forward on the HD-2D Remakes of Dragon Quest 1 and 2, slated for a 2025 release. Work is also progressing smoothly on Dragon Quest 12. However, it’s a different story for Kingdom Hearts 4. Since its announcement in April 2022, information has been scarce, leaving fans eager for updates about its development.
