With the official launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 set for Tuesday, the game is already stirring up quite the conversation among players. Those who have tried it out early have pointed out a myriad of criticisms, particularly zeroing in on a confusing user interface and the absence of some basic features that veterans of the series have come to love. Addressing these concerns, Firaxis has promised future updates to enhance the gameplay experience. In a proactive move, an enthusiastic player who has been exploring the game during its early access phase has developed a mod to tackle these issues head-on.
Crafted by Sukritact, the mod titled “Simple UI Adjustments” brings a mix of handy features to the table. It introduces tooltips for tile hover actions, detailing wonders built on specific tiles, and includes smaller plot yield icons on undeveloped areas. Plus, it streamlines diplomacy by letting you initiate contact with other civilizations by clicking on their city banners directly. While these modifications may seem modest, they significantly reduce the need to dive into the Civilopedia or navigate through endless menus to access critical information.
Although the game isn’t widely available to everyone yet, and there isn’t any Steam Workshop page set up for easy mod management, getting this particular mod up and running is pretty straightforward. It involves placing the mod folder into your Civ 7 mods directory, typically found at “{user}\AppData\Local\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier’s Civilization VII\Mods.” To ensure everything is correctly installed, just visit the Mods menu under “Additional Content” to see the mod active.
Despite Civilization 7 only being accessible to early adopters since February 6, Sukritact has already crafted another mod, doing away with the unlock prerequisites for all civilizations. This feature, usually tied to the selected leader and certain historical milestones, is now more flexible thanks to this modification.
Granted, it’s a letdown that features such as renaming cities or units didn’t make it to the initial release of Civilization 7. However, given the swift progress of the modding community, it seems we won’t be waiting too long for solutions to these missing elements.
