You can enjoy Fortnite on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, and trust me, right now, facing Godzilla is quite the adventure!
Over the years, my feelings toward Fortnite have become a bit tangled. I fondly remember its brilliant first year—a time without bots, where every match was a thrilling mix of unexpected chaos, humor, and inevitable defeat. Those days were defined by genuine encounters between players, skillfully weaving their way through the action. Now, however, it feels like that engaging experience has been replaced. The matches are mostly filled with bots, providing little challenge and more of a predictable routine, just waiting to be picked off. And the game’s narrative, which once teased and intrigued us with the unknown, now unfolds with over-explained storylines and characters that tell us exactly what’s happening. Weekly additions of well-known characters from all sorts of popular “IPs” further dilute Fortnite’s unique essence, turning it into something akin to a corporatized fantasy reminiscent of Ready Player One.
Still, I can’t deny that Fortnite holds a certain allure. The way it allows me to feel the landscape beneath my character’s feet, the fluid movement—running, sliding, leaping across the terrain—is something I genuinely enjoy. On particularly tough days, I find comfort in logging in and completing a few daily quests for some easy XP; it’s a routine that lets me momentarily lose myself. And let’s not forget Fortnite’s penchant for pulling off grand spectacles that few can rival. Right now is particularly epic, with Godzilla, the iconic king of monsters, occasionally appearing in matches. Having seen a clip of players engaging as the monstrous titan, the scale and fury are spot on. I anticipate that this weekend, I’ll be diving into Fortnite more than usual, driven by the hope of experiencing firsthand the exhilarating rush of something truly colossal pushing me to make a desperate dash for survival. So, if you’re planning to dive into Fortnite this weekend and end up embodying Godzilla, while I might be the tiny figure scurrying below, please spare me. I promise, I’m just here to survive! — Carolyn Petit
